Clockventry
Design Brief
Living in a time of great technological change, the rising of AI and automated manufacturing is replacing traditional trades and crafts that has brought us to where we are right now, forming the society, economy and cities for centuries. Seeing Coventry soon becoming the UK City of Culture 2021, there is lots of trades and crafts that are awaiting to be shown to the public, to be dug deeper. Among all of the trades and crafts that Coventry used to produce, Watchmaking seems to be one of the interesting part of the industrialisation time. Thousands of people were employed in the watchmaking industry and 50% of the watches in England being made in 18th and 19th centuries were made in Coventry. To celebrate Coventry’s Watchmaking Legacies during UK City of Culture 2021, we present a Watch and Clock wonderland themed pavilion. A Pavilion which unfolds the structure of the interior of the watches, showing the public the intricate workmanship of handmade watches that were made by the 2 000 watchmakers. A watch fantasy where landscapes were shown in the image of the gear parts of the watches.
